Luckily, she didn’t seem to notice. “You know, Margaret,” The second in command, “Lily,” The slave, “Genevieve,” just another wanna be, “and Bright.” The nobody.
“Sounds fun.” I said not quite seriously. “Can you make it?” Wow, she really seemed hopeful! “Yeah, I think so, I’ll have to check with my mom first.” “Well I really hope you come. We’re gonna have so much fun!”
We turned into the commons, and since we both had different classes, split up.
I had healing next with Doctor Finlandia.
Doctor Finlandia is the only “Witch Doctor” at our school. She’s been here as long as anybody can remember. She was here when my mom was in school, and her mom before that. All in all, that’s a more complicated way of saying she’s ancient. Even though she’s probably like, 150 or something, she doesn’t look old. She looks like she is in her early 50s or something, but to tell you the truth, she is the exact picture of a witch. Including the wart on her nose.
I took my seat in the back row, and waited. Dr. Finlandia always took awhile getting into the classroom. No one knew why, not even the other teachers. Some girls next to me where whispering and giggling about this one boy named Josh Udani at the front of the room. I didn’t really see what was so great about him, but apparently I was the only one. He was tall and, I guess you could say he was cute, but I’d known him since kindergarten, and since I’d seen him wet his pants, throw up, and burp really loudly, I couldn’t like him anymore than a brother, but try telling that to a bunch of level eight girls who get their best grades in gossip.
Dr. Finlandia swept into the room, from where, no one had a clue. “Enchanted, class.” She said in a strangely beautiful, husky voice. “Enchanted Dr. Finlandia.” The class recited in unison.
Something flew through the air and hit me in the head. I picked it up off my desk, and realized that it was a wadded up piece of note paper. I opened it and read:
What’s up? This class bores me 2 death, how ‘bout u?
I looked around to see who it was from. Josh caught my eye and grinned. Just figures that the only girl in the room who didn’t think he’s “dreamy” is the one he decided to pass a note to. Apparently, the giggling girls where thinking along the same lines as me, because they where glaring at me with utter loathing. Then I realized that the girls where Lily and Bright, two of Livia’s clique members. That’s when I decided to respond instead of just leaving it in my desk, or throwing it away.
I felt cruel as I smiled at them, looked down at the page and ‘giggled’, and then dug in my desk for a pencil. I had to go through about everything in my desk before I found one. I couldn’t open it enough to actually see in and that made it more difficult.
By this time Finlandia was taking roll call, so I had to wait until she called my name, before I could start writing under my desk. Since my last name is Yazi, it took forever for her to get to me, but eventually she called: “Juliet Yazi?” and I said “Here.” and could finally start writing.
I actually don’t really mind it. I think Finlandia’s kind of interesting. Listen. Livia and her clique are having a party, and I’m really not looking forward to it. Actually, Livia’s has been being kind of a brat lately, and I kind of want to get back at her, so can you just go along with it? Great. Just so u know, if anyone asks, we’re “2gether”. Got it? We aren’t for real, and this only has to last ‘till Friday, and u shouldn’t take this to seriously.
Sorry! ‘’
The farther I got, the more I realized how ridicules the idea was. It was stupid. I couldn’t send it! It would just make everything awkward! I just should-
A hand zipped down and yanked the note off the binder on my lap. I looked up, straight into the gnarled face of Dr. Finlandia.
It took Finlandia about a minute to really process what was going on. She sat at her desk, reading the note over and over, until finally, she stood and said “Miss Leimkuhler, Miss Cambridge, Miss Yazi, and Mr. Udani, you will all see me, in my office, during after lunch break. We have some matters we need to discus. For now, Mr. Udani and Miss Yazi will right 50 lines each.” She paused and considered, “Make that 100. Now come up here so that I can assign them to you.”
With a scraping of chairs, Josh and I stood, and walked over to Finlandia, with a look of defeat on our faces.
Finlandia handed us each a piece of paper, and we headed back to our desks. I glanced at mine and read in loopy cursive:
I will not seek revenge on people who are supposed to be my friends.
It was going to be a long day.

Chapter Three, part four
I guess I should have been prepared for her to invite me to her party.
Yeah, I know I said she was my friend, which is mostly true. Or, it used
to be true, anyway. But recently, she had surrounded herself with this
group of followers. She claimed it wasn’t her clique, but then how come
she managed to have all her little wanna-bees do whatever she wanted,
whenever she wanted?
Well, anyway, it seemed to me that she’d kind of decided that since I’m
not one of her pawns, that I couldn’t even be her friend. So then she
surprised me, and I wasn’t really prepared. I messed up right then and
there by blurting out:
“Umm... Who else is gonna be there?”
Pathetic, huh? I hadn’t taken a moment to think, or I’d have realized
how self-centered and self-conscious it was of me to respond like that,
until after I’d said it, and then it was kind of too late. Lame, I know,
but I just stepped in deeper: “I’m just curious....” Whiney and weak,
I agree. Whew!
